Lisa Howard in the news

Lisa Howard made the Province earlier this month. Aside from EV getting a mention, Lisa was also excited because the article appeared beside a photo of Voeckler winning stage 5 of the TdF.

Warp Speed results, photos, and BC Cup #5

The Warp Speed results are now available. Also, intrepid dEVa Jeni took a few photos which we invite you to peruse. Special mention ought to go out to EV's own overachieving Cat 3, Ian Young, for fastest time on the day! In Merckx Class, the evergreen Larry Zimich was more than 2 minutes ahead of the next rider. Fastest female was Rachel McBride of West Point Cycles, with dEVa Amy Kirkham only 32 seconds behind her. And since he's my good friend and occasional Mario Kart adversary, I'd like to congratulate Casey Pope, the only U13 TTist. I believe this was his first ever TT!

On the TTT side, Glotman Simpson took the overall, Chicks were the fastest women, and the team of Eric Kjode and Saskia Arnesen won the mixed doubles TTT.

Thanks to everyone who came out.

In other news, some EV riders spent the weekend on Vancouver Island, as evidenced by their presence in the Sidney Twilight Criterium, which was also the final BC Cup event. I can tell you as a preliminary result that dEVa-dEVo Noe Cooper came in 2nd in the Elite Women's race, and Garneau Evolutionist Andrew Kyle rode away from the pack in powerful fashion to win the Elite Men's race. In the Cat 3/4 men's race, nothing good happened.

Warp Speed: What would Eddy Merckx do? Also, registration open, new parking details

UPDATE: registration on Karelo is now open: ITT and TTT

First, I don't know how to say this, but the Warp Speed TT just got weirder. By "popular" demand, this year we will have a "Merckx Class" for people who want to do a time trial, but without all the bother of, well, a time trial bike.

To enter Merckx Class, you must race without modern aerodynamic aids:

  • Your frame must conform to UCI road bike (NOT TT bike; yes, they are different) frame dimension rules
  • No aerobars (use drop bars, like Merckx!)
  • no skinsuits
  • no TT helmets
  • no shoe covers
  • Wheel rims must not be deeper than 30 cm mm
  • Scrunching yourself up into Obree's Mantis Position is also super-forbidden.

Parking

Due to berry-picking season, our usual parking location is unavailable. Instead, we will use the Tradex Centre parking lot. Good news: real toilets at the Tradex Centre. You can use them. Bad news: it's about 3.4 km bike ride from the parking lot to the race start. Please use this as a warm-up and plan your arrival time accordingly. We have a helpful map of the route from parking to départ.
