Devo and Cannondale pb Fortius race report: Race the Ridge
With riders in nearly every category, from Cat 1/2/3 and 4 men and women, to the youth category, Devo and Cannondale pb Fortius had a great presence at Race the Ridge at the end of April.
The weekend started on Saturday with a tough road race in the hills around Maple Ridge, followed by a steep hill climb time trial with a 20% grade section. Sunday was the criterium on a technical course in downtown Maple Ridge.
From winning stages, to getting a flat tire on the first lap, the weekend had many ups and downs. Before and after each event, the entire team was stationed at the team tent, supporting each other and planning ahead to their next goals.
Saturday’s road race saw some great results, with Elle Bush third in Cat 3 women and Nathan Bishop third in Cat 4 men. Linnea Uunila placed fifth in her first Cat 4 women’ss race, and Quinn Storey placed fifth in the Cat 3 men. In the youth race, it was Josie and Manu taking the win for the girls and boys respectively.
Saturday afternoon’s hill climb was a struggle for many riders, with cold and stormy weather, and tired legs all around. Everyone was able to find enough motivation to power through it though, in leg burning and lung blasting fashion!
Sunday’s final criterium was the last chance to solidify overall omnium placings. The classic downtown course is technical, fast and fun, with opportunities for breakaways or controlled sprint finishes. We had lots of riders in contention for podium finishes, and game plans for individual sprint results and overall podiums.
The youth dominated with both Manu and Josie sprinting to the crit win and taking the overall Omnium win. The Cat 4 men saw Ethan use his track speed to power to crit victory, and Nathan coming in close behind to solidify his 2nd overall Omnium spot.
The Cat 4 women’s race saw Linnea sprint to 3rd place, moving up into 4th place overall Omnium. In the Cat 1/2/3 womens race Elle was able to sprint to the Criterium win for Cat 3, and Elizabeth moved into 3rd place in the overall Omnium for Cat 3. In the fast and furious men’s Cat 1/2/3 race, both Quinn and Sean performed great, placing 4 and 5th respectively, which placed Quinn 3rd in the overall Omnium.
All in all, it was a great weekend of racing for everyone. Thanks to Barry Lyster and all the Local Ride racing crew for putting on another great event!
