Teams are lining up to support youth cycling at the Brian Jessel BMW Last Tuesday Nighter
Our criterium season will come to a close this year on Tuesday, September 12th, with the Brian Jessel BMW “Last Tuesday Nighter,” an evening of racing and celebration that will raise funds for youth cycling. With prominent local elite teams already lining up in support of the event, preeminent performance apparel company Sugoi signing on as a founding partner along with Brian Jessel BMW, whose landmark lot will serve as the backdrop to the evening’s festivities, this is gearing up to be the event of the season.
Three events are scheduled for the evening: a youth criterium will open the event, followed by invitational elite women’s and men’s races. Each team is limited to 3 riders with the field size limited to 12 teams.
“The course is fast and furious with an estimated 30 second lap and wide sweeping corners,” says Andrew Pinfold, former Gastown Grand Prix winner, Global Relay Bridge the Gap Director, and announcer for the event. “I’ll be joined on the mic by three-time world champion and Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame member, Alison Sydor. Throw in a BBQ run by the Burnaby Fire Fighters, a beer garden, a glitzy setting, a raffle for a $4000 BMW e-bike and this is shaping up to be a very memorable night.”
Local community response has been amazing, according to Brian Storey, President of Escape Velocity. “Frankly, it’s heart-warming to our volunteers and coaches who pour so much time into our youth programs to see people line up to enter a charity criterium. Funds from this event will support coaching, equipment, and fee bursaries.” The event has commitments from most of the prominent local elite teams already, including:
- Trek Red Truck Racing
- Langlois Brown Racing
- Glotman•Simpson Cycling
- Pender Racing p/b Bicicletta
- North Coast Lumber 1 p/b Giant White Rock
- Smart Savvy Garneau pb Applewood
- Brian Jessel BMW
- Vertex One presenting Cannondale pb Fortius Coaches
- Jones Brown presenting Cannodale pb Fortius Team
Tickets for spectators are $30 for adults and $20 for youth, and include the BBQ. All proceeds from the event benefit youth cycling. VIP ticket bundles are also available, which will include special SWAG for your guests when they arrive at the event. A limited number of VIP tickets are available.
