The DEVO and Cannondale pb Fortius youth cycling programs are looking for energetic and experienced coaches to join their roster. The right individuals must have a passion for coaching youth cycling, be skilled road, cx, and/or mountain bikers, and be able to meet the challenge of working with other coaches to develop a first rate youth cycling program. The successful candidates will have NCCP coaching certification or be working towards certification and be a self-starter with experience in developing ride- and skill-development plans.

About the Club: The DEVO (U13/U15) and Cannondale pb Fortius (U17/U19) program has grown into one of Canada’s premiere youth development cycling programs. It has fostered athlete development from complete beginners up to national champions racing professionally. DEVO serves a fundamental role in rider education, providing a positive and fun team atmosphere for riders to develop not only bike skills and fitness, but also the mental skills and abilities to persevere through challenges, be part of a team, and realize both personal and team goals.

Coaching Positions: The club is looking for a U13 Road/Cyclocross Head Coach, U17/U19 Ride Leader/Assistant Coach, and a Head Mountain Bike Coach. Details of each program and coach roles are as follows:


U13 Road/Cyclocross Program

Effective Date: April 1, 2018
Position: DEVO pb Fortius U13 Head Coach
Type: Part-Time
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Summer road and cyclocross planning, coaching and coordination

  2. Sponsor and club relations

  3. Reporting

1. Summer road and cyclocross program planning, coaching and coordination

The coach will develop, plan and implement an annual development program that utilizes Escape Velocity’s administrative and material support and has the following characteristics:

  1. Lead three training sessions per week (from April 1 to Aug. 12, Tuesday & Thursday 6–7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00–11:30 a.m.);

  2. Coordinate weekly training schedule with Program Director, assistant coaches, and parent coordinator;

  3. Coordinate youth road race travel plans primarily with the road co-ordinator and the DEVO program director as appropriate;

  4. Attend races in the DEVO calendar identified as core races for the team;

2. Sponsor and club relations

The U13 head coach role is a public role in both the immediate Escape Velocity and DEVO club as well as within the wider cycling community. The U13 head coach role requires the organization of volunteers and sponsor resources. In addition to general expectations of professional communication within the club to members and their families, the U13 head coach is responsible for providing regular updates and engaging in social media functions (Facebook, Twitter, youtube, etc.).

3. Reporting

The DEVO U13 head coach reports directly to the DEVO program director and head coach.

U17/U19 Team Cannondale pb Fortius Ride Leader/Assistant Coach

Effective Date: April 1, 2018
Position: Team Cannondale U17/U19 Assistant Coach
Type: Part-Time
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities:

  1. U17/U19 ride leader, ride planning and event coordination

  2. Sponsor and club relations

1. U17/U19 coaching, planning and coordination

The U17/U19 will be active on multiple weekly rides with the Cannondale pb Fortius team athletes. The coach will work with the Head Coach to develop, plan and implement an annual development program that utilizes Escape Velocity’s administrative and material support and has the following characteristics:

  1. Lead three training sessions per week (from April 1 to Aug. 12, Tuesday & Thursday 6–7:30 p.m. and typically Saturdays 9:00–12pm);

  2. Coordinate weekly and yearly training schedule with Program Director.

  3. Attend races in the team calendar identified as core races for the team;

  4. Assist head coach with monitoring athletes training through Training Peaks

2. Sponsor and club relations

The U17/U19 assistant coach role is a public role in both the immediate Escape Velocity and DEVO club as well as within the wider cycling community. The U17/U19 assistant coach role requires the organization of volunteers and sponsor resources. In addition to general expectations of professional communication within the club to members and their families, the U17/U19 assistant coach is is responsible for providing regular updates and engaging in social media functions (Facebook, Twitter, youtube, etc.).

The U17/U19 assistant coach reports directly to the DEVO program director and head coach.

Mountain Bike Program - Head Coach

Position: Head Coach - DEVO Mountain Bike Club
Type: Part-Time

  1. Mountain bike program planning coaching and coordination

The coach will develop, plan and implement an annual development program that utilizes Escape Velocity’s administrative and material support and has the following characteristics:

  1. Lead one to two training sessions per week (from April 1 to Aug. 12, Wednesdays 6–7:30 p.m. and 1x per month Sunday all day);

  2. Coordinate weekly training schedule with Program Director and Mountain Bike assistant coaches;

The DEVO mountain bike head coach role is a public role in both the immediate Escape Velocity and DEVO club as well as within the wider cycling community. The mountain bike head coach role requires the organization of volunteers and sponsor resources. In addition to general expectations of professional communication within the club to members and their families, the mountain bike head coach is responsible for providing regular updates and engaging in social media functions (Facebook, Twitter, youtube, etc.).
